Red Meat (Beef, Lamb, Pork, Venison, Kangaroo, etc.)

Shelf Life: 3-5 days
Notes: Store in airtight containers or vacuum-sealed packaging to maximise freshness.

Poultry (Chicken, Turkey, Duck, etc.)

Shelf Life: 1-2 days
Notes: Poultry spoils faster due to its higher moisture content. Ensure it’s kept in a sealed container to prevent contamination and minimise exposure to air.

Fish (Salmon, Tuna, etc.)

Shelf Life: 1-2 days
Notes: Fish is highly perishable. Store it on ice or in the coldest part of your fridge to maintain freshness. If it smells strongly “fishy” or feels slimy, it’s likely spoiled.

General Storage Tips

Packaging: Keep proteins in their original packaging if sealed, or re-wrap tightly with cling film or freezer paper.
Fridge Placement: Store raw proteins on the lowest shelf to prevent cross-contamination.
Freezing: Freeze proteins if you can’t use them within the recommended time frames. Label with the date before freezing.
Check Freshness: Discard proteins that develop an off smell, slimy texture, or discoloration.
